With Families in the Lead: Partnering with Families to Use SRV led by Janet Klees

May 17, 2022 @ 9:00 am - 11:00 am

A Study Session Led by Janet Klees

Often the best examples of people with disabilities accessing and contributing to the good things in life, in ordinary but powerful ways that show possibility, take place in a family context. I have found it to be powerful, effective and often life-changing to bring the theory and framework of SRV to the attention of families. From there we work together to use SRV to understand and analyze the world around us, to guide planning and implementation of strategies that bring about roles, relationship and places of belonging and contribution to people’s lives.

Through stories and real-life examples, the session explores bringing the ideas of SRV to families, and will end with a short look at Ethical Partnering between family and agencies, exploring the questions: What does a principled, ethical connection to a principled organization look like, why does this matter, and how do agencies provide support without getting in the way?

As always, time will be given for the presentation, followed by group discussion and reflection together.
