Inclusive Higher Education for Students with Intellectual Disabilities: An SRV Examination

March 3, 2021 @ 9:00 am - 11:00 am

The culturally valued analogue for students who are leaving secondary school is broad, and rich, and includes many possibilities. In  the United States and Canada, one of those possibilities is attending college or university.

Join Darcy Elks and Guy Caruso for an SRV examination of the increasing possibilities for students with intellectual disabilities entering the role of college/university student.  Several college and university programs in the US and Canada (at least) have been explicitly based on some ideas of Social Role Valorization, so they provide a rich source of analysis of the promises and possibility for students to be successful in the roles, as well as how challenging it is to stay  rooted in the culturally valued analogue. Those who attend this session are requested to view Dan Habib’s  36 minute film Opening Doors to College HERE
