And the Beat Goes On: Change Theory & Implications for SRV

November 30, 2021 @ 9:00 am - 11:00 am

Join us for this study session exploring the notion of change, in a presentation by Raymond Lemay, followed by dialogue and discussion marrying change theory to SRV theory.

Human beings are funny: We want change and expect change but mostly for others. For ourselves it is “we are doing fine with the way things are, thank you.” Human beings cope with change by finding refuge in habitual living. The fact of the matter is that most of our lives are spent in a routinized fashion going from one thing to the next without giving it much thought, as if things are always the same. We often seem to live in denial, and automaticity characterizes our lives. Even complex activities such as driving a car are mostly done in almost unconscious fashion – we don’t really notice a lot of the change that goes on around us – we tend to go with the flow of new technology, for instance. But then there are the dramatic moments when the past seems to break off at the present, leading to a very different path to the future. Big sudden change – a catastrophe – the loss of a job, an earthquake, or a pandemic make huge demands on coping skills.

SRV is also about change – directed change. It is about being change agents and about better futures. It is about capitalizing on unrelenting change for the better. Let’s put two and two together and see what we come up with in this study session incorporating change theory, mindset change, and consciousness-raising.
