We often pronounce service practices overwhelmingly “good” or “bad,” yet the reality is more complex as any practice may offer both advantages and pitfalls for vulnerable people. SRV gives us a unique way to assess impact: spotting what helps people access the good things of life, while revealing risks and shortcomings that could cause harm.
This study group series invites SRV-savvy folks to examine practices and discuss hopeful possibilities and worries together.
As technology becomes increasingly integrated into human service practice, it is important to ask not only what technology can do, but what it does to people’s lives, social roles, relationships, and opportunities. Using an SRV lens, this study group will explore the possibilities, risks, and safeguards associated with technology use, considering how technology may contribute to, or detract from, valued social roles, competency enhancement, community participation, and access to the good things of life.
Join us for a thoughtful discussion grounded in Social Role Valorization, where we will explore both the promise and the cautions of technology in human services and consider what SRV-informed practice requires in an increasingly digital world.
