All sorts of societal forces as well as practical considerations often mean that we are continuously compromising\, trading off\, and delaying improvements.  How can a service work to understand the progress is it making in implementing SRV\, and gain ideas about how to move forward?  This workshop will provide a bird’s eye view of several methods (from informal to formal) which can be used to evaluate aspects of service quality based on SRV criteria. In this short workshop\, we will focus on understanding the evaluation methods we have used\, and putting our heads together for ways to increase the competency of evaluators and the amount of SRV-based evaluation in India. This workshop will focus on one such concept\, known as the “Conservatism Corollary”\, helps us understand the need to prevent\, reduce\, and compensate for vulnerability. A big influencer in whether an option will deliver real benefits to a person depends on if it is powerful enough to compensate. DESCRIPTION:SRV principles might help us unravel some of the many extraordinary changes we have seen around us in the past several hard weeks. All around us\, people are living under new conditions that are shaking our assumptions\, causing us to connect with others in different ways\, and feel very real fears. In this first International SRV Association (ISRVA) study group\, we’ll spend time together sharing what we have noticed about people\, society\, and ourselves during the COVID 19 pandemic through the lens of SRV. This informal study group\, intended for those who have attended an SRV introductory course of 2 or more days\, provides a way for us to stay connected\, learn from each other\, and support each other.  Jo Massarelli and Betsy Neuville  will facilitate by providing some structure for our discussion\, and we will look at this with a sense of adventure using the technology of Zoom.   \nIn order to participate\, you will need a reasonably good internet connection. We will limit the number of participants to 20 for this session\, and it is on a ‘first come\, first served’  basis. If there is a high demand\, we will gladly schedule a second session. All registrations are taken  HERE.  \nIn order to participate\, you will need: \n\na reasonably strong internet connection\nuse of a laptop or a tablet with a video camera (mobile phones are not recommended)\nto arrive to the Study Group on time or a bit early\, and be free to stay for  the entire session\n\n

SUMMARY:Valued Lives: Introduction to Social Role Valorization in 4 Days (Delhi\, India)
DESCRIPTION:An Invitational Course on Social Role Valorization will be held 19-22 November in New Delhi. This body of knowledge was offered in India for the first time in 2016\, and the impact was immense. “SRV” theory is influencing the development of inclusive lives for people with disability in powerful ways. Applications are being accepted. Those accepted into this course will be afforded travel costs as well as accommodation\, meals\, materials\, and and full tuition. A very nominal fee of 800 INR will be collected upon registration for those who are selected. Final participants will join the 84 leaders across India who have benefited from this course\, and will be supported afterwards to\nimplement the ideas towards a more inclusive\, just society where all are valued and all belong. \nThis is a residential certification course offered only to selected leaders and emerging professionals\, family members\, and advocates. It is a theory course\, and will be followed by opportunities to implement\, build on\, and use the ideas in practice. It is our intention to continue to build on the community of practice currently using and sharing “SRV” across India. It should be noted that the materials is applicable to all devalued and marginalized persons in any society\, and our presenters and leaders have particular expertise working alongside people with developmental and psycho-social disability towards fuller\, richer\, better lives.

SUMMARY:SRV-Informed Best Practices in Residential Services (Bangladesh)
DESCRIPTION:WE INVITE YOU to take part in one-day event on\ncreating responsive and effective residential services.\nCreating true home for vulnerable people\, especially\npeople with developmental and psychosocial\ndisability\, is a challenge facing families\, government\,\norganizations\, people with disability\, and advocates.\nThe lessons learned from western service models of\ngroup homes and institutional care yield both lessons\nand cautions in what is being created here across\nSouth Asia. Indeed\, the residential system of care is\nbeing built now\, and designing programs that work is\nessential in securing the futures of so many people\nand families across India.\nThis one-day workshop examines some of the major\nthemes in crafting home for vulnerable people. Building\non some of the concepts taught and learned in Social\nRole Valorization\, we’ll cover using the culturally valued\nanalogue as a starting point for service design\, methods\nto individualize support\, the art of creating home\,\nand practical analysis of the impact of the physical\nenvironment\, location\, size\, and groupings of residential\nservices. We’ll touch on the art of home-building\, and\nissues of autonomy\, rights management\, and freedom.

DESCRIPTION:A Brief Introduction to Social Role Valorization\nAn inaugural workshop in Dhaka\, Bangladesh\nWE INVITE YOU to take part in a brief but intensive one day training course\nwhich introduces participants to the principles of Social Role Valorization.\nSocial Role Valorization (SRV) is a high -order framework for understanding\nthe phenomenon of social devaluation\, oppression\, and marginalization\nof groups and classes of people within society. The principles explore the\ncommon life experiences\, or wounds\, of people living on the margins of\nsociety\, or who have been outright abandoned and rejected\, and the impacts\nof these wounds on individual people and on society.\nGlobal south leaders\, advocates\, practitioners\, and families are finding\nit extraordinarily\, strengthing\, helpful\, and eye- opening.
