Social Role Valorization is a comprehensive theory which provides insights as to why certain groups of people become devalued in society\, what life experiences are likely to befall people once they have become devalued in the eyes of others\, why valued social roles are a powerful response in combatting the negative life experiences\, and ten essential themes which can guide implementers in pursuing valued social roles by\, with\, and for those practitioners desire to serve. \nThis foundational material is essential to those wishing to serve others in meaningful ways\, and who are impassioned to make a difference in the lives of others. Many participants experience the learning within this event as the most helpful\, inspiring\, and clarifying body of knowledge they have been exposed to in their professional development\, and it assists in long-term understanding and focus on being of service to others in ways that matter. \nThe workshop includes pre-recorded as well as live presentations\, small and large group live reflection and discussion\, online forums and resource materials. DESCRIPTION:This five-day workshop is for those who are interested\nin deepening their knowledge about the principles of\nSocial Role Valorization. This workshop involves\nlearning to use the PASSING assessment tool\, which\nlooks at the realities of Social Role Valorization in\npractice. It emphasizes the impact of services on the lives\nof the people being served\, and provides an opportunity\nto craft a vision of a good service and the foundation\nfrom which to design relevant and effective support\,\nservice\, advocacy\, and assess service quality. The work of\nPASSING is done in teams\, visiting a residential and a\n“day” service\, meeting the people being served\, and\nconducting interviews with service administrators. The\nworkshop involves extensive personal reflection and\nanalysis\, group conciliation\, and thought-provoking\ndiscussion. The week’s work is conducted under the\nguidance of an experienced team leader.\nPrior attendance to a full SRV theory course\, either\nonline or in-person\, is required to register for this event.\nThis workshop includes long days and late nights.

The workshop emphasizes the impact of services on the lives of their recipients. Workshop participants are invited to see services “through the eyes” of its recipients. This is an opportunity to work with the ideas of Social Role Valorization (SRV) to craft a vision of excellent service. \nThe work of this course is done in teams. Many teams will include family members\, support workers\,administrators\,& others. Each team will go to both a residential and a “day” service\, visiting with service recipients & conducting interviews with staff & administrators. The event involves extensive personal reflection & analysis\, group conciliation\, & thought­ provoking discussion. A past workshop participant said\, “when I go back to work\, I won’t be the same.” \nPREREQUISITE \nPersons attending PASSING must have first attended a full Introduction to SRV workshop.
