DESCRIPTION:Training Description: \nAcross India\, change leaders committed to better lives for people with developmental and psychosocial disability are talking and learning about Social Role Valorization\, a powerful set of ideas about how to assist people to have full\, rich\, meaningful lives. SRV provides a high-order framework for understanding the society in which we live\, and the place people with disabilities tend to hold within in. As well\, SRV thinking is accompanied by very practical implementation strategies to help people with disabilities have access to the good things of life. Please join us as we introduce participants to the basics of Social Role Valorization. This overview event will present the idea of assisting people with disabilities and other devalued conditions to have positive social roles as a productive and helpful response to wounding life experiences. People wishing to understand the life experiences of people they support and the implications of those life experiences\, and are committed to the work of making life better are encouraged to attend. This foundational material is essential to those wishing to serve others in meaningful ways\, and who are impassioned to make a difference in the lives of others. The global pandemic is causing us to interact differently\, and Keystone Institute is adapting by providing our courses and events on-line\, using the best platform we can find. This event is a pilot\, and we need your help by attending it and providing us with feedback and suggestions. Please join us as we introduce participants to a powerful component within SRV known as the Conservatism Corollary. This has nothing to do with politics but DOES have to do with strengthening the options we offer to people as we help them to have access to the good things of life.   \n  \nThe workshop includes presentation\, group reflection and discussion\, and resource materials. If so\, this is a chance for ISRVA members to hear Marc Tumeinski’s compelling keynote address\, specifically offered to us.  As is typical\, we’ll listen to Marc’s presentation\, then have the chance for SRV focused conversation and dialogue. \n  \nMultiple forms of restraint (physical\, mechanical\, chemical) are commonly\, even increasingly\, accepted and used as valid human service approaches in a wide variety of disparate service fields\, yet with very little comprehensive analysis of these dangerous practices. In this presentation\, Marc Tumeinski draws upon multiple tools authored by Wolf Wolfensberger\, including Social Role Valorization and Model Coherency\, to examine the nature and impact of human service restraint practices\, taking into account the heightened vulnerability of devalued people in services. \nAbout the Presenter: Marc Tumeinski\, PhD\, is a trainer with the SRV Implementation Project. As a service worker\, he has supported children and adults with physical and/or intellectual impairments\, as well as mental disorder\, at home\, school and work. Social Role Valorization\, and related work by Wolfensberger\, has been the guiding framework for his service-related efforts since his first involvement in human services. He has given workshops and spoken on issues of violence in services\, as well as the use of restrictive practices such as restraint\, at conferences in the US\, Canada\, Australia\, New Zealand\, and the Netherlands. SUMMARY:Introduction to Passing Workshop - Lancaster Pennsylvania\, US
DESCRIPTION:This five-day workshop is for those who are interested\nin deepening their knowledge about the principles of\nSocial Role Valorization. This workshop involves\nlearning to use the PASSING assessment tool\, which\nlooks at the realities of Social Role Valorization in\npractice. It emphasizes the impact of services on the lives\nof the people being served\, and provides an opportunity\nto craft a vision of a good service and the foundation\nfrom which to design relevant and effective support\,\nservice\, advocacy\, and assess service quality. The work of\nPASSING is done in teams\, visiting a residential and a\n“day” service\, meeting the people being served\, and\nconducting interviews with service administrators. The\nworkshop involves extensive personal reflection and\nanalysis\, group conciliation\, and thought-provoking\ndiscussion. The week’s work is conducted under the\nguidance of an experienced team leader.\nPrior attendance to a full SRV theory course\, either\nonline or in-person\, is required to register for this event.\nThis workshop includes long days and late nights.
