DESCRIPTION:For those with some knowledge of Social Role Valorization principles\, and who are hungry for how to help people move into valued roles\, this workshop is for you. How do you identify roles people might be interested in? Once you have a role in mind\, how might you help a person enter that role? How can adaptations and accommodations be used which will enable people with significant competencies and  impairments to be successful?   Betsy\, Ranjana and Manisha will discuss some of the practical ways that we can walk alongside people with disabilities as they successfully move into valued roles. An “SRV Gem”\, this workshop is intended for people who have attended brief versions of a day or less covering the basics of “SRV”. \n  \nPre-requisite: All registrants are welcome to attend provided they have attended at least a short workshop on Social Role Valorization. The training will be delivered in English.

DESCRIPTION:The Introduction to Social Role Valorization is an intensive workshop which presents the idea of assisting people with disabilities and other devalued conditions to have positive social roles as a productive and helpful response to wounding life experiences. Social Role Valorization is a comprehensive theory which provides insights as to why certain groups of people become devalued in society\, what life experiences are likely to befall people once they have become devalued in the eyes of others\, why valued social roles are a powerful response in combatting the negative life experiences\, and ten essential themes which can guide implementers in pursuing valued social roles by\, with\, and for those practitioners desire to serve. \nThis foundational material is essential to those wishing to serve others in meaningful ways\, and who are impassioned to make a difference in the lives of others. Many participants experience the learning within this event as the most helpful\, inspiring\, and clarifying body of knowledge they have been exposed to in their professional development\, and it assists in long-term understanding and focus on being of service to others in ways that matter. \nThe workshop includes pre-recorded as well as live presentations\, small and large group live reflection and discussion\, online forums and resource materials. Participants should be prepared for significant presentations. \nThe course will take place entirely online from February 18-20 and February 25-27.

SUMMARY:Leadership Level SRV Workshop Series Part 8 of 9
DESCRIPTION:THIS WORKSHOP PROVIDES an introduction to Social Role Valorization (SRV)\, developed by Dr. Wolf Wolfensberger. His work helped lay the foundation for many current human service trends\, including the development of community services\, integration\, self-determination and rights\, and person-centered planning. SRV is a systematic\, universally applicable framework for structuring human services\, applicable to administration\, board members\, direct service workers and families. SRV describes a close relationship between the perceived value of the roles that people hold\, and whether people in those roles will be accorded opportunities and other ‘good things of life.’ Bad things tend to get done to people who are seen in devalued roles\, and good things tend to be afforded to people in positively valued roles. The workshop offers a critical SRV-based look at many contemporary human service practices. Participants will benefit from lectures\, question and answer periods\, and discussion. Written assignments will be accomplished between sessions and will form the basis for reflection and conversation.

DESCRIPTION:Across India\, change leaders committed to better lives for people with developmental and psychosocial disability are talking and learning about Social Role Valorization\, a powerful set of ideas about how to assist people to have full\, rich\, meaningful lives. SRV provides a high-order framework for understanding the society in which we live\, and the place people with disabilities tend to hold within in. As well\, SRV thinking is accompanied by very practical implementation strategies to help people with disabilities have access to the good things of life. Please join us as we introduce participants to the basics of Social Role Valorization. This overview event will present the idea of assisting people with disabilities and other devalued conditions to have positive social roles as a productive and helpful response to wounding life experiences. People wishing to understand the life experiences of people they support and the implications of those life experiences\, and are committed to the work of making life better are encouraged to attend.This foundational material is essential to those wishing to serve others in meaningful ways\, and who are impassioned to make a difference in the lives of others. Many participants experience the learning within this event as the most helpful\, inspiring\, and clarifying body of knowledge they have been exposed to in their professional development\, and it assists in long-term understanding and focus on being of service to others in ways that matter. \n

DESCRIPTION:The Introduction to Social Role Valorization is an intensive workshop which presents the idea of assisting people with disabilities and other devalued conditions to have positive social roles as a productive and helpful response to wounding life experiences. Social Role Valorization is a comprehensive theory which provides insights as to why certain groups of people become devalued in society\, what life experiences are likely to befall people once they have become devalued in the eyes of others\, why valued social roles are a powerful response in combatting the negative life experiences\, and ten essential themes which can guide implementers in pursuing valued social roles by\, with\, and for those practitioners desire to serve. \nThis foundational material is essential to those wishing to serve others in meaningful ways\, and who are impassioned to make a difference in the lives of others. Many participants experience the learning within this event as the most helpful\, inspiring\, and clarifying body of knowledge they have been exposed to in their professional development\, and it assists in long-term understanding and focus on being of service to others in ways that matter. \nThe workshop includes pre-recorded as well as live presentations\, small and large group live reflection and discussion\, online forums and resource materials. Participants should be prepared for significant presentations. \nThis course will take place entirely online from February 18-20 and February 25-27.

DESCRIPTION:Passing is for those who are interested in deepening their knowledge about the principles of Social Role Valorization. This workshop involves learning to use the PASSING assessment tool\, which looks at the realities of Social Role Valorization in practice. It emphasizes the impact of services on the lives of the people being served and provides an opportunity to craft a vision of a good service and the foundation from which to design relevant and effective support\, service\, advocacy\, and assess service quality. The work of PASSING is done in teams\, visiting a residential and a “day” service\, meeting the people being served\, and conducting interviews with service administrators. The workshop involves extensive personal reflection and analysis\, group conciliation\, and thought-provoking discussion. DESCRIPTION:  \nThe contemporary world is abuzz with talk about so-called “artificial intelligence” (AI)\, and claims for what it can and will be able to do. Anything that sweeps over the world like this has implications to devalued people and services to them\, and those who are concerned about and want to alleviate the plight of devalued parties should pay attention to such things. In this presentation\, the background and context of so-called “AI” will be examined\, as well as a number of ways that it connects to and has implications for Social Role Valorization and the pursuit of valued roles for devalued people. The presentation will be followed by time for questions\, comments\, and discussion. SUMMARY:The Road Most Traveled: Using the Culturally Valued Analogue as Your Guide
DESCRIPTION:Mapping out a vision of a big\, full\, inclusive life for vulnerable people can be full of road bumps. Sometimes we don’t know people very well\, sometimes people are uncertain themselves about their identity\, gifts\, talents and what their future could hold; and sometimes we are so lost in “human service land” that we lose sight of the typical pathways of life and all they have to offer people.  But when we are stuck developing roles\, designing services or even planning a house warming party for someone\, using the culturally valued analogue can provide us some tried and true guidance to get started\, by reminding us to consider “What happens for people with a valued status?” \nJoin us to learn more about using the CVA to keep us moving in the right direction as we walk with vulnerable people.

DESCRIPTION:Training Description: \n“Model Coherency: An SRV-Based Framework for Designing and Evaluating Services \n  \nThe concept of model coherency is one of the themes of and for Social Role Valorization (SRV) theory. Yet another fabulous “”gem”” of SRV\, this concept is so helpful when both designing and evaluating a service. How well a service “”hangs together”” in every way is the big idea behind Model Coherency. This workshop is designed for those who have some training in Social Role Valorization\, and those who have also done deep SRV study.
